Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
